Brief Introduction of Longsheng County

Longsheng County, or rather Longsheng Multi-ethnic Autonomous County, is located in Guilin, a city in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. With governance of five towns and five townships, most of the county occupies a high plateau surrounded by mountains with the highest mountain - Nanshan (South Mountain) rising 1940 meters above sea level.

Located about 87 kilometers from Guilin City, Longsheng County is even a world famous destination in China for marvelous terraced rice fields and ethnic villages. Due to the mountainous terrain, the local ethnic minorities generally make living from farming and tourism. There is neither airport nor railway station in Longsheng, so visitors should arrive in Guilin first then head for the beautiful county by bus. Though most of the roads in Longsheng are winding, transportation to there is convenient.

Best Time to Visit Longsheng

Longsheng County has a monsoon climate, no burning summer and bitter winter, thus it is visited by tourists all year round. But Longsheng is said to be most beautiful in late spring and autumn. In April or May each year, the terraced rice fields are entirely irrigated, mirror-like fields reflect the image of the sky in sunshine and water glisten when a breeze blows over. Autumn is a harvest season when the rice fields turn into a golden sea, the view of rice terraces is extremely breathtaking during the period.
