Foods in Longsheng

Bamboo Tube Rice—fresh bamboo is cut into sections, and then filled with rice and ingredients including cured meat, nuts, tiny pieces of taro or pumpkin and other spices. Put enough water into the bamboo tube and seal it with fresh leaves or corn cob. The bamboo section is heated on small fire, after about half an hour, the soft roasted rice is ready with faint fragrance of bamboo.

Longji Rice Wine—glutinous rice and clear water are mixed with yeast to ferment, when the fermented rice is braised on fire in wooden barrel, rice wine with dense aroma will stream down from the bamboo pipe inserted in the barrel. This kind of wine brewed in almost every local family is sweet but not strong, even non-drinkers can have a try.

Cured Meat/ Chinese Bacon—carefully chosen streaky pork is salted with seasonings, and dried in the smoke of firewood, dried peel or sawdust. The salted meat turns into golden yellow and tastes excellent. Fried with other delicacies in Longsheng, such as bamboo shoots, wild brakes or mushrooms, it is really an appetizing dish with rice.

Longji Pepper—planted in the fields of five to eight hundreds meters high above the sea level, Longji pepper is vital to some people in Longsheng, especially to those who prefer heavy flavor. Locals make pepper to various kinds including chili sauce, dried chilies and pickled peppers so as to be preserved and served with different flavors.

Accommodation in Longsheng

Some tourists travel to Longsheng prefer staying overnight in the scenic area of Longji Rice Terraces or Longsheng Hot Spring National Forest Park. Facilities of the hotels in the former scenic area are comparatively limited due to the mountainous terrain and high elevation, while in the latter area decoration of some hotels even reach five-star standard.

Built on hillside, hotels in Longji Rice Terraces scenic area are not as good as the ones in downtown. However, those wooden hotels or guesthouses are favored by visitors because most of them have unique scenery. Some hotels are ideal places to enjoy sunrise and sunset as well as the splendid terraced fields in Longsheng. There are not many rooms in those hotels, few modern decorations, but the peace and tranquility make them havens for people who live in hustle and bustle. One thing to be noted is that the accommodation in Ping'an Zhuang Terraced Fields scenic area is much better than that in the Jinkeng Red Yao Terraced Fields, though some guesthouses and youth hostels in latter with basic facilities are favored by backpackers.

Tourists who have enough time to visit Longsheng Hot Spring National Forest Park would generally enjoy hot springs in the scenic area and stay one night in the hotels there which are modern and better decorated.
